biber ist fünf, und ich werde melancholisch. Denn jetzt, wo alle feiern, wird mir erst bewusst, dass für mich die Party vorbei ist. Im Hangover kommt mir langsam, was in fünf Jahren alles hängen geblieben ist. Das will ich mir noch schnell von der Leber schreiben.
Mit 35 bist du bei biber schon ein Stronach. Aber das ist nicht der Grund, warum ich gehe, denn erstens macht die Arbeit dort mindestens fünf Jahre jünger – ich war also zuletzt höchstens 30 - und zweitens hatte ich in der biber-Akademie altersmäßig so etwas wie einen Professoren-Bonus.
Ich gehe, wie ich schon oft gegangen bin, nach dem Vorbild Jörg Haiders: „Ich bin dann mal weg“ - um kurz darauf wieder auf die Bühne zu hüpfen. Das betrieb ich fünf Jahre so. Story im ersten Heft, Aufbau Wirtschaftsressort; wieder weg; Textchef; wieder weg; Blatmacher, Textchef; wieder weg; biber-Akademie, Almanah. Jetzt fühlt es sich so an, als wäre ich wirklich weg, zu intensiv wird der Job bei der Wiener Zeitung, der ältesten Zeitung der Welt, die gerade neu durchstarten will.
Berlin hat keinen biber
biber ließ mich von Anfang an nicht los, weil ich Simons Konzept von Beginn an toll fand: Unverkrampft und ganz weit weg von der Migranten-Opfer-Schiene. Dass es um Ausländer, Inländer, Integration, türkische Hochzeiten und Jugo-Partys ging, trat für mich schnell in den Hintergrund – als Schwabo ohne ić oder ü im Namen fehlte mir der Migrationshintergrund und ich hätte mich irgendwann fragen müssen, was ich beim Magazin der „neuen Österreicher“ eigentlich treibe. Ich war deswegen immer wieder dabei, weil sehr rasch eines in den Vordergrund trat: Geile G'schichten, die nur meine Kollegen vom biber aus dem Hut zaubern konnten; Kolleginnen und Kollegen, die ständig zwischen zwei kulturellen Stühlen balancierten und dadurch einen schrägeren Blick auf Österreich, die Politik und Wien hatten, als wir Mainstream-Schreiber.
Mit dieser neue Art zu erzählen hat biber einen Fixplatz in der Wiener Zeitungslandschaft erobert – keine Kleinigkeit in der überladenen Facebook-Boulevard-Ära. Berlin hat keinen biber. Dieser biber-Style war ansteckend und bot auch den Redaktions-Schwabos genügend Platz, Geschichten zu erzählen, egal, ob ein Kollege den Co-Piloten beim türkischen Hatzerl auf der Triester machte oder ich als Spielsüchtiger in der Automatenkabine posierte.
Ganz weg war ich ja eigentlich nie. Ich werde nie vergessen, wie ich in den ehrwürdigen Räumlichkeiten des Bundeskanzleramtes eine Story über inländische und ausländische Klomänner bearbeitete. So viel Zeit, nebenbei ein kleines Geschäft zu verrichten, musste sein. Bald darauf stand ich mit meinem Bundeskanzleramtsanzug wieder bei biber auf der Matte; der Anzug ging, ich blieb. biber wird mich auch weiterhin nicht loslassen. Weil, manche Dinge vergisst du nicht. Zum Beispiel den „Schwabo“.
Dein neues Ich
Nach dem xten „Schwabo“-Sager, den du in Redaktion aufschnappst, fällt es dir wie Schuppen von: Es geht um dich und alle anderen Nicht-Migranten. Der Schwabo ist ab jetzt dein zweites Ich. Du rennst seit zig Jahren durch diese Stadt, fährst auf den Balkan, hältst dich für aufgeschlossen, musst aber erst zu biber, um zu erkennen, dass dich jeder Dritte in Wien nicht als Österreicher sondern als „Schwabo“ klassifiziert. Zum ersten Mal fühlst du dich als Exot in deiner eigenen Stadt. Und dabei ist der Schwabo gar nicht die Rache der Zuwanderer für den Mutantenbegriff „Migrant“. Für Jugos und Türken ist ein Österreicher eben ein „Schwabo“, weil die Donauschwaben am Balkan siedelten und dort alles, was Deutsch sprach, schwaboisiert wurde.
Jugotürkifiziert
Gerade hast du dich mit deiner zweiten Identität angefreundet, da reißt dir biber wieder ein Stück davon aus dem Leib und jugotürkifiziert dich – mit Geschichten, wie unsexy es ist, eine Dame nach dem Date mit der U-Bahn heimzuschicken, wie öde es ist, mit Freunden bis auf den letzten Cent die Rechnung zu dividieren, wie letztklassig es ist, einen Gast zu bitten, die Pizza selbst mitzunehmen. Du machst jetzt öfter einen auf dicke Hose und merkst, dass am Ende des Tages fast genauso viel Geld übrig bleibt. Nach den ersten Ausflügen auf der Balkan-Straße ziehst du dem kleinen Macho in dir weniger oft eine drüber, weil du bei den Balkan-Machos gesehen hast: Die sind gar nicht so schlimm. Die gibt es auch nur, weil die Balkan-Mädels es ihnen erlauben, so zu sein.
Powerfrauen
Überhaupt fragst du dich irgendwann, warum die Mädls der zweiten oder dritten Generation als weniger emanzipiert gelten als Österreicherinnen im 7. Bezirk. Der größere High-Heel-Schrank kann es nicht sein. Denn beim aufwändigen sexy-Outfit geht es den Kolleginnen mehr um die eigenen Launen als ums Männer-Staunen. Sie schreiben über Fashion und Faschisten, machen die Fachhochschule, dolmetschen für die erweiterte Familie, fahren regelmäßig runter und erobern die Redaktion.
So weiblich besetzt wie biber ist gerade noch die Wienerin oder Woman; auch in der biber-Akademie hätten wir eine verpflichtende Männerquote nicht erfüllen können. Die Männer müssen sich unter den Migranten genauso warm anziehen wie überall anders auch. Irgendwie tröstlich.
biber ohne Binnen-I
Dass biber das Binnen-I genauso „mit schaß“ findet wie die Worte „Inklusion“, „transkulturell“ oder „autochton“ liegt nicht daran, dass man sich kritischen Themen verschließt. Es liegt daran, dass die Story wichtiger ist als das von einer Elite vorgegebene Vokabular. Die Story muss auf der Straße funktionieren und nicht nur auf der Uni, sonst funktioniert biber nicht. biber hat mir ein Stück Sprachfreiheit wiedergegeben. Und heute denke ich mir: Bringt es uns wirklich weiter, wenn wir die Sprache so verkomplizieren und mit korrekten Wort-Aliens aufladen, bis die Lugner-City für unsere Botschaften Sperrgebiet wird?

Magenta statt Schwarz-weiß

Du liest in den Storys, wie stark der Nationalismus am Balkan ist und wie sehr er nach Wien getragen wird. Die Stadt ist plötzlich voll mit einschlägigen Zeichen an Hauswänden. Strache ist nicht allein.
Andererseits merkst du, dass die Kollegen irgendwie entspannter mit der FPÖ umgehen als linke Österreicher, obwohl sie, wenn es gegen Ausländer geht, Zielscheibe sind. Sie weichen einfach aus, hören gar nicht hin, schreiben lieber selbstbewusst über ihr Leben in der Stadt. Um im biber vorzukommen, muss Strache schon das serbische Armband anlegen; die üblichen Bierzeltsager reichen nicht.
Seit biber kommen mir beide Bilder reichlich altbacken vor: Das vom vollen Boot genauso wie das von der bunten Vielfaltswiese. Manche Probleme im Zusammenleben sind genauso evident und gehören gelöst wie die Tatsache, dass Wien längst eine Melange aus alten und neuen Österreichern ist.
Ljubav
Bei biber fällt die Integration jedenfalls relativ leicht. Die Sprache ist Deutsch und wenn innerhalb der Jugo-Merheit einmal Jugo gesprochen wird, versteht der Türke und Bulgare genauso wenig wie der Schwabo. Die Zungentechnik für das Wort „ljubav“ (Liebe) zu lernen, hab’ ich mir irgendwann abgeschminkt.
